Success Stories

Miranda had problems with completing class work assignments, not being able to follow along with the rest of the class when instructions were given, and spending a lot of time daydreaming out the classroom window as far back as first grade. She was evaluated and subsequently tested for ADD (for which she was "borderline"). Her problems persisted and then she also began to suffer with headaches, sometimes two or three times a day. Her pediatricians were at a loss to explain the headaches. We came for an appointment with Dr. Gallaway and he diagnosed convergence insufficiency.

Miranda came for vision therapy once weekly for four months. After only four months, she is headache-free, getting all A's and B's on her report card, and is able to not only complete all of her daily class work, but has usually finished her homework before she comes home after school as well. We no longer sit for one and a half hours every evening to finish homework.

Dr. Gallaway and his staff have helped Miranda more than I ever imagined they could. School has become very exciting for her and she looks forward to going. We highly recommend Vision Therapy.

At the beginning of Brad's 26 long weeks of vision therapy, I had many doubts that such therapy would improve my son's academic future. Brad was falling behind in school and was placed in speech, OT, and was classified as Special Education. My heart went out to him as he was given yet another therapy to help him with poor eye teaming, eye tracking and visual motor problems.

To my surprise, after 18-20 weeks of vision therapy, I started seeing positive results. Upon completion of vision therapy, Brad's oral reading fluency greatly improved and is up to speed with his peer group. He now enjoys reading age-appropriate books. Best of all he is able to read without blurred vision over an extended period of time.

Prior to vision therapy, Brad's handwriting was far from legible. After therapy his handwriting is consistent in size and shape.

Academically, Brad's grades have gone from C's and D's to consistent A's and B's. However, school is still a daily struggle for Brad given other problems such as language processing. The vision therapy Brad received through Dr. Gallaway has given Brad the skills he needs to continue climbing the academic ladder.

There's no greater feeling to a parent to have their 8-year-old son jump off the bus, burst through the front door grinning ear to ear about the A or B grade he got on a test that day. I am so proud of my son!

Micheline loves to read now! There is no more crying during homework. She will now initiate it. Micheline has always been a hard worker and a good student; however, she complained in fourth grade about headaches after school and after her homework. Being in fourth grade, she was expected to read four books per month. She never looked forward to reading any more the way she did when she was younger. I also noticed that she would answer incorrectly at the end of a Math, Science or Social Studies test. I knew we were in trouble when she started asking me to read for her during her homework.

Now that she has been receiving vision therapy, she reads all the time. She does not complain about headaches or her "mushy" vision. There are less tears in our household. In fact, no more tears during homework. Her teacher has noted a difference in her work and stated that Micheline seems much happier and less tired during the school day.

Shaun's therapy has brought many changes academically as well as personally. His willingness to read as well as his attention span in school has increased immensely. His attitude and behavior have been affected as well. I think because he has more confidence in his ability to read better, which has contributed to better performance, he is a happier, more even-tempered child. Thank you to Dr. Gallaway and his staff for truly making a difference in Shaun's life.

What can I say but WOW! Jared has improved 100% not only in reading, but his improved vision impacts all areas of his life. He has gone up two grades in reading in one marking period. Jared was aware of the improvements because they happened so quickly, and this, along with the great staff, encouraged him to want to work even harder at making progress. He is now doing extremely well in school. He also now likes to read. Before, it would always be a fight to get him to read anything.

Vision therapy has made one of life's little pleasures a lot easier for Jared. He now can enjoy playing video games, and his skills in baseball have also improved. He hits more and misses less. It has been a pleasure coming here every week. Dr. Gallaway and his staff are a pleasure to work with. They are truly concerned about improving your vision. I can't thank Dr. Gallaway and his great staff enough for their dedication to Jared and his well-being.

Keep up the good work. Thank you!

When we learned from our eye care provider that Erika had a problem we were very surprised. She never mentioned she saw double or was having trouble reading. We noticed only a slight change in her attitude toward reading.

Our doctor sent us to Dr. Gallaway. He opened the door for Erika; he told us he could make her a better reader and return her to the love of reading she once had. After three and a half months, 24 visits, daily home work, Erika is back on track. Straight A's on her most recent report card, reading nightly. Previously, she would read no more than a page before falling asleep. Now, she reads 10-20 pages and decides to go to sleep. That is a complete turnaround.

Erika feels better about herself and her accomplishments. We thank Dr. Gallaway and his team; they gave her passion for reading back to our daughter. Thank you. She loves to read and now she can do it with ease! Thank you.

Andrew is a much happier and more relaxed student now. His writing and reading have substantially improved and he is much more willing to do written work. He is less frustrated and his school performance has noticeably improved. Although we're glad to be finished with vision therapy, coming here was always a pleasure. The staff couldn't be nicer and it was exciting knowing that Andrew's vision was always improving. Thank you for making our lives better.

I thought it was interesting some of the time. It helped me a lot.

Sara struggled in school from kindergarten through 5th grade. She was told by her ophthalmologist that she didn't need glasses. We came to get Dr. Gallaway's opinion, and he found that Sara did need glasses and had eye tracking problems and eye teaming problems. Sara participated in vision therapy treatments from May to September last year. She is now in 6th grade, and her grades have gone way up. She made the honor roll all three terms so far! Her self-esteem has improved greatly, and she will gladly tell you that having glasses and doing vision therapy has helped her so much. We are so thankful that we were referred to Dr. Gallaway because seeing all the wonderful improvements in Sara's schoolwork and self-confidence has made us all feel great! Thank you for everything!
Laurie Mielbye, Sara's parent

For Derek and our whole family vision therapy has been a great experience. It took some time before we noticed the changes. Then, one day, Derek was a different person.

Vision therapy has helped Derek become a less frustrated and calmer person. He is less likely to pick fights with us, his family, because life is much easier for him. Now he complains that he doesn't like the subject matter of a book. Before, he complained about reading the book. He has more free time because he can finish his homework in a reasonable amount of time with better quality. When he sits down to do his homework, he completes it and moves on. Before, homework took hours and was not done correctly.

His whole life has improved. Now he has much more confidence in himself. He knows if he tries he can do so much. Vision therapy was a lot of work for him and us, but he has learned so much. He can see the difference hard work has made for him. Now he knows that hard work pays off. I hope he remembers this for a long time.

My only wish is that we knew about Dr. Gallaway years ago so Derek and we did not have to suffer for so long!
Susan Preston, Derek's parent
